Monday, 2/13: Vocabulary Day!

  1. Take your vocabulary quiz using Schoology. If you need help logging in, see me. I can tell you your username and password. You may not talk to another student as you take your quiz or as they take their quiz. You may not use your notes.
  2. Once you’ve finished taking your vocabulary quiz, please go to All Things Vocabulary Week 14 to find your new words for the week. Watch the video and make your vocabulary foldable for next week.

Tuesday and Wednesday, 2/14-2/15: Propaganda Continued

Read chapter 7 of Animal Farm. As you read, keep a dialectical journal of recurring abstract concepts that you are noticing in the novel.

Read “First They Came…” by Pastor Martin Niemoller. How is this similar to the events in Animal Farm?

Listen to NPR Article, “Amnesty International Reports Organized Murder of Detainees in Syrian Prison” published on 2/6/2017

Write level three questions connecting the events in Animal Farm to the issues presented in “First They Came…” to current events.

Thursday and Friday, 2/16-2/17: Level Three Questions and Chapter 8

First, we will review the level-three questions you were to complete as homework. Then, we will read Chapter 8 of Animal Farm.

Tuesday and Wednesday, 2/14-2/15: Socrates Debrief

Today we will review the Socrates text. Then, in small groups, you will write a five-paragraph essay with eleven-sentence body paragraphs answering the essential question: How are Socrates’ three reasons for shunning written language still relevant to modern society? How do the issues in Fahrenheit 451 compare and contrast to Socrates’ three concerns?

Thursday and Friday, 2/16-2/17: Fahrenheit 451 – Pages 102 – 110

Today we will read pages 102-110. Then, you will have the rest of the period to continue working on your five-paragraph essay in your small group.
