Directions: Use main idea chunks (main idea, textual evidence, analysis) to answer the questions below in preparation for our Socratic seminar on Of Mice and Men. Make sure every response uses evidence: practice embedding textual evidence using the steps below!
- Step 1: Introduce the source and the author. If you haven’t already done so earlier in your response, provide comments about the source or the author.
- Step 2: Provide a paraphrase or direct quotation to support your claim. Make sure you begin with a verb and end with a parenthetical citation.

- Google defines censorship as “the practice of officially examining books, movies, etc., and suppressing unacceptable parts.” Fahrenheit 451 depicts a dystopian society with mass censorship of books and knowledge. In an interview with Dana Gioia, Bradbury explained that his inspiration for the novel stemmed from Hitler burning books in the streets of Berlin when Bradbury was fifteen, and from the burning of the libraries in Alexandria over five thousand years ago. How might world leaders benefit from mass censorship? What is Bradbury’s message to his readers?
- Your semester final exam will require you to develop a campaign about a human rights violation currently impacting people who live in New Mexico or somewhere else in the United States. Please select two of the following options:

- Prisoner’s Rights
- Black Lives Matter Movement
Conduct research on your selected topics and write one well-developed paragraph for each topic explaining how that topic is a social justice issue. Be prepared to take notes on this topic during the discussion to help you deepen your understanding about social justice.
